North Antrim U14 Airborne Hurling League Finals 2016
2nd April 2016

Saturday past seen the North Antrim U14 League Finals being ran off in the Dunloy Sports Academy.  This is a very unique competition which requires you be at your very best and tuned in for an entire match, due to the speed, skill needed and no stoppage rules, just rebounds and constant play.  Scoring for this competition in North Antrim is 1 point for a goal, 2 points for a 'point' and 2 points for a catch (only catches from a struck pass count - hand passes or 'pop passes' do not count).

This U14 competition is growing each year and this year seen 15 teams taking part battling it out over a few weekends for a chance to secure their place in the U14 Airborne Finals in indoor 4G facilities namely Dunloy Sports Academy and Tir na nOg Randalstown.

Like the U12 Finals from the first throw in of the ball it was clear once again we were here for finals day.  The young talented players where going in hard and fast for every ball at pace and making use of the 2 point catches to aid boost their team scores which was very apparent on the day.  It’s great to see competitions like these encouraging players to catch the balls and use their skills to keep the pace of the game of going.

North Antrim would like to thank Dunloy Sports Academy and Tir na nOg Randalstown for the availability of their facilities for this competition.  Without these type of indoor halls this competition simply would not happen and it’s for this reason why we can only accept a certain number of entries.

A special thanks goes to our Youth Development Officer Declan Heggarty and Sean Mullan from Dunloy for referring the finals along with their score keeping assistant Paul McSparron them in check.  North Antrim would also like to thank all the teams and players who took part in the competition this year making it such a success.

The results of the finals where are follows:

Division 3 Winners – St Mary's GAC Ahoghill
Division 2 Winners – Naomh Padraig
Division 1 Winners – Loughgiel Shamrocks
